MPA offers to adopt orphans

Published July 6, 2008

THATTA, July 5: Pakistan People’s Party’s MPA Humera Alwani on Saturday made an offer to adopt two orphaned children of scheduled caste whose parents committed suicide reportedly due to extreme poverty near Jhoke Sharif town the other day.

Ms Alwani visited the ill-fated family and offered Manoo Kolhi, mother of deceased Maria, to adopt Jamna, 3, and Mukesh, 2.

She announced establishing a primary school in the nearby village and learnt that despite claims of the district health department, no health official had visited the area to administer anti-polio drops to children.

Jumo’s mother said that her son was a peasant and their fertile lands had been rendered barren due to non-release of water for last couple of years.
