‘White paper’ collection of contradictions, says minister

KARACHI, July 4: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman said on Friday that PML-Q’s ‘white paper’ was based on newspaper clippings and a ‘collection of contradictions’.

Addressing a press conference here, she said that the prime minister would present details of government’s achievements during its first 100 days.

Ms Rehman said that the PPP-led government had ‘always welcomed democratic differences and criticism’, but criticism should be positive.

About the criticism of the government’s performance in the ‘white paper’, she said that criticism was everyone’s democratic right, but people criticising others should have the courage to listen to counter-criticism.

She said the ‘white paper’ contained several things for which the previous government had also been criticised.

Ms Rehman said stock market crashes, sugar scandal, auctioning of the steel mill at a throwaway price, Atta crisis, economic downturn and other issues were the result of previous government’s ‘princely spending’.—APP
