ISLAMABAD, July 4: The Islamabad High Court on Friday served notice on Attorney-General Malik Mohammad Qayyum, asking him to come up with proper answers to questions raised in an application by Ms Hendrina Khan, the wife of detained nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.

Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam who took up the application of Ms Khan on the request of Advocate M. Javed Iqbal Jafferi issued the notice to the AG for July 15, the day when the court is due to take up a habeas corpus petition of the same petitioner regarding detention of Dr Khan.

Ms Khan pleaded in her application that her husband was innocent and had not committed any offence, but no visitor was being allowed to meet him.

Security arrangements at her house are a farce meant to befool the people, the application said, adding that the family was not allowed even to use phone and all post, Internet and phone calls are either being bugged or censored.

Even the bedroom is not safe as eavesdropping gadgets have been installed and a woman officer has been deputed outside the house to body search all women visitors and family members.

This is all being done despite the fact that President Pervez Musharraf had pardoned Dr Khan on the direction of the cabinet, but in actual practice Dr Khan is still under strict surveillance, the letter claimed.
