Case against Highway official

Published July 5, 2008

GUJRAT, July 4: The Anti-Corruption Establishment registered a bribery case against an executive engineer of the highways department.

Malik Muhammad Akram of Shadman Colony had lodged a complaint with ACE director-general Tariq Saleem Dogar some two-and-a-half months back that engineer Tariq Butt had taken Rs3 million in bribe from him in 2002.

He alleged that the engineer had threatened to demolish a plaza at the GTS Chowk if he was not given Rs10 million in bribe. The complainant said he had settled the deal with the engineer for Rs3 million which was given to the official in Lahore.

On the direction of the ACE director-general, an inquiry was conducted which found the involvement of the engineer in the corruption. A case has been registered against the engineer under Section 161 of the PPC and Section 5 of PCA 1947.
