3 policemen’s services terminated for misconduct

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, July 4: Region-al police officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani here on Friday terminated the services of a sub-inspector (SI), assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and a constable of Airport Police Station for keeping a man in illegal custody and obtaining illegal gratification.

According to a press release, Kashif Abbasi a resident of Airport Housing Society alleged in a complaint to the RPO on June 17 that he was picked up by four persons who were in plain clothes and introduced themselves as personnel of an intelligence agency.

The complainant told the RPO that they took him blindfold to Airport police station where an ASI told him that he was arrested on the charges of forging matriculation certificates. He remained in the police station for two days and got himself released after paying Rs35,000 bribe to the staff.

On the said complaint, RPO directed the SSP Rawalpindi to hold an enquiry into the matter. The SSP after due enquiry found the allegations true and held the SI Nazir Ahmad, ASI Muzaffar Iqbal and Constable Sajjad Hussain of Airport station guilty of illegal confinement and getting illegal gratification. They were put under suspension for their misconduct.

After necessary departmental proceedings the services of the three police men were terminated by the RPO.

Meanwhile, the RPO directed the Gujar Khan Police to treat a suicide case as murder after he was shown photographs of body hanging with a tree.

A body was found hanging with a tree on Civil Hospital Road near Nursery Gujar Khan. Local Police after getting medico-legal report declared it as suicide and started enquiry on that line.

A resident of the area appeared before the RPO Rawalpindi and presented photographs of the body. It was found in the pictures that the hands of the deceased were tied and there were also marks of violence on the back side of the body. The case on the basis of evidence produced appeared to be prima-facie of a murder.

The RPO ordered the local police to register a case under section 302 PPC and directed Yaseen Farooq SSP Operation Rawalpindi to conduct an enquiry and submit the report within two weeks.
