KARACHI: Charge-sheet of defaulter’s suicide case submitted
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, July 4: The investigation officer of a bank defaulter’s suicide case on Friday submitted charge-sheet against the accused recovery officer with the court of civil judge and judicial magistrate-III (Central).
Tufail Shah, a 26-year-old, had committed suicide on April 27 by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his house in New Karachi and his family claims that he was under severe mental stress due to the attitude of the bank officer frequenting their home to recover the loan taken by the deceased.
The IO said in the charge-sheet that the bank officer, Sheikh Mohammad Atif, along with some other colleagues, twice visited Shah’s residence and subjected him to intimidation. The bank team also hurled insults at his mother and other members of his family in an effort to force Shah to resume payment of the loan, the IO stated, adding that Shah resorted to committing suicide due to the mental stress caused to him by the bank team.
The prosecution said that a recovery team had visited Shah’s house and reportedly misbehaved with his mother and sister, and this had caused immense stress and depression to Shah. The same day, he committed suicide, it added.
Sheikh Atif was arrested on May 2 following the registration of a case (FIR No.87/08) at the New Karachi police station on the complaint of the deceased’s mother.
The case has now been transferred to the district and sessions judge (Central).
