KARACHI: ‘Limb centre symbol of Indo-Pak cooperation’
KARACHI, July 4: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman, who also holds the additional portfolio of Health, inaugurated the Artificial Limb Centre (ALC) in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Friday.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, she described the ALC as an admirable project that would help physically disabled people to live almost a normal life.
She lauded the efforts of the Healthcare and Social Welfare Association (Haswa) of Karachi in establishing the centre and the cooperation of Jaipurfoot of India, which provided the required expertise for the project.
The minister noted that the joint efforts were an indicator of bilateral collaboration between the private sectors of Pakistan and India in the field of health care.
Earlier, Ms Rehman went round different sections of the ALC during which she was briefed by Haswa president Dr Feroz Ismail about the functioning of the centre.
Ms Rehman said the ALC was a landmark venture which had undertaken to provide artificial limbs to the needy and deserving people free of charge.
She commended Haswa and other organisations for their philanthropic act and held out the assurance that the federal government would extend all possible assistance to the project.—APP
