Play resumes at Wimbledon

LONDON, July 2: Play resumed at Wimbledon on Wednesday at 1537GMT following a rain suspension of over two hours.

Rain had earlier brought Roger Federer’s blistering start to his quarter-final against Mario Ancic to a halt after just 27 minutes of action.

The five-time champion led the Croatian, the last man to beat Federer on grass here in 2002, 6-1, 1-1 when play on Centre Court was suspended.

On Court One, Feliciano Lopez was leading Marat Safin 5-2 in his quarter-final.

Rain had also delayed the start of the day’s schedule by one hour.

Later, Britain’s Andy Murray was to follow on Centre Court against Spanish second seed Rafael Nadal.

On Court One, Rainer Schuettler was taking on Arnaud Clement in a battle of the veterans.

Federer had won his last match against LLeyton Hewitt 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, 6-4 on Monday.—AFP
