KARACHI: Drive against substandard goods

KARACHI, July 2: The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) has directed its raiding teams to launch a crackdown on manufacturers of substandard goods.

Director-General of the institution Dr Abdul Ghaffar Soomro said on Wednesday that the raiding teams constituted for the purpose had been mobilised to check the marketing and sale of substandard goods and take action against their manufacturers on receiving complaints from consumers.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the PSQCA office, he also reviewed the steps taken to address such complaints.

He said no company would be allowed to produce substandard goods, and directed the officials concerned to take action without any discrimination.

Strict action be taken particularly against those producing and marketing substandard cement, steel, oil, ghee, mineral water, cable and confectionary items using poor quality material, he said, adding that no one could be allowed to play with the life and health of citizens.—APP
