3 militants, army officer killed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 1: Three militants and an Indian army officer were killed on Tuesday in a gunbattle near the Line of Control, an army spokesman said.

He said the fighting took place in the mountainous northern district of Kupwara, bordering Azad Kashmir.

“The gunbattle erupted closer to the Line of Control when troops sighted a group of heavily-armed militants and asked them to surrender,” the spokesman said, adding that the militants chose to fight.—AFP
