KARACHI, June 30: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to withdraw the name of former Test opener Majid Khan as nominee for the post of Chairman, International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket Committee, after he lashed out at board’s policies regarding financial affairs and other issues last week.

Sources told Dawn that the PCB chairman, Dr Nasim Ashraf, who left for Dubai on Monday to attend the ICC meeting, would ask the international body not to consider Majid as Pakistan’s candidate for the coveted post.

The post has been lying vacant since Indian great Sunil Gavaskar was asked to step down by the ICC who objected to his numerous contributions to the print media.

Majid, who is a representative of old Test cricketers in the ICC, said he didn’t care about the post of the ICC cricket committee.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on Friday, Majid lambasted the PCB over the mess in its financial affairs as well as its failure to impose discipline in the team. He also demanded the National Assembly’s public accounts committee to audit the PCB accounts.

It may be mentioned that the monthly salaries of PCB’s top officials had not been on the pay roll for several months. However, it has been learnt that new chief financial officer Arif Kitchloo had put the salaries of those officers on record in the last month after convincing the PCB chairman that it could be a big audit objection.

Moreover, appointing 700-plus employees in the board which, not too long ago, functioned with barely 30 to 35 officials, has also raised eyebrows in the cricketing circles. According to information, PCB has spent around Rs2 billion in the last seven months in expenses.
