HYDERABAD: University land occupied

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, June 30: The land mafia has encroached upon the plots of Sindh University located in Deh Railo and on the university’s water supply tanks in the area.

The estate director of the university on Monday issued a letter to Jamshoro police station for the registration of an FIR against an alleged land grabber, Din Mohammad Chandio, and others.

In his letter to the SHO of Jamshoro, he said that Din Mohammad and others were the members of a land mafia and had encroached upon the university land and closed all links connected to water tanks.

He said after the overnight encroachment on the university land, the mafia had also closed the road and prevented the staff concerned from running the water supply system.

He said the encroachment had halted the water supply to huge population of the university, faculty and to the employees and students residing in the university hostels. The director in another letter to Hesco authorities has appealed to them to immediately disconnect the illegal electricity connections to the land grabbers.

University authorities said that land mafia, from time to time, had been encroaching upon the Sindh University plots and the university authorities had also taken up the matter at higher level.

The university had also lodged FIRs against the culprits, a university spokesman said.

They were protesting against a raid on the residential colony of the employees. The employees of Kotri and Lakhra powerhouses also joined the protest to express solidarity with their colleagues.

Speaking on the occasion, All Pakistan Powerhouses Wapda Hydro Union chairman Moha-mmad Sajan Panhwar condemned the action of Hesco authorities and demanded that the colony should be supplied electricity though the power house auxiliary.

He said house acquisition facility should be restored and a national bank branch should be established in Kotri powerhouse.
