KARACHI: Labour leaders under threat

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 30: Leaders of a private bank’s labour union have protested against the sacking of a labour leader, and said they would organise a demonstration at the bank’s head office on Thursday.

Saeed Ghani, Pervaiz Yasin and others told a press conference at the Karachi Press Club that they were called by the bank’s management to receive a letter informing Mr Yasin, general-secretary of the union, that his services were no longer required. They said that the other union leaders were warned that they could meet the same fate if they did not refrain from indulging in union activities.

Mr Ghani claimed that more than 250 drivers, 1,500 naib qasids and many other workers had been sacked under different pretexts by the bank’s management over the years.

Habibuddin Junaidi, Liaquat Sahi, Shahid Naqvi and Rahmatullah Sarki were also present.
