PM approves bridge over Sutlej

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, June 29: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has approved a bridge over river Sutlej at Jhangra village near Uch Sharif besides roads connecting it which will cost about Rs750 million.

According to an official press release issued here on Sunday, the bridge would link the historic town of Uch Sharif (Bahawalpur district) with Jalalpur Peerwala (Lodhran district).

It was a longstanding demand of the area people and Malik Aamir Yar Warren as an independent candidate had held out an assurance to this effect during his election campaign.

After his election, Mr Warren, who was associated with PML-Q and was its federal parliamentary secretary, had joined the PPP.

With the construction of the bridge, the distance between Bahawalpur and Multan will not only reduce but it will also open new vistas of development.

ARABIC COURSE: Sargodha University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Akram launched a free of cost Arabic teaching course at the Central Library here on Sunday.

The VC underlined the need for acquiring knowledge of Arabic language which was essential for the promotion of our links with Islamic countries.
