SANGHAR, June 28: Home based women workers have no rights in Pakistan as they are neither recognised as labourers nor they are justly paid for their work.

Speakers at a seminar on “District consultation on the draft of national policy on home-based women workers” held at the taluka hall said this here on Saturday.

Participants from all over Sindh attended the seminar which was organised by the Aurat Foundation.

Ms Shireen Ijaz and Malika Khan of the foundation said that with the help of these seminars and with consultation during such meetings they would submit their findings to government to draft a law for the rights of women workers.

Nawaz Kumbhar, Ms Razia, DO agriculture Kirshan Kumar, Ms Salma Qureshi, Aslam Manan, Mushtaq Pirzado, Qazi Zulficar, President DBA Anwar Mehmood Nizamani spoke at the seminar.

They said that home based workers were exploited everywhere. And if a woman works on a piece of embroidery for a month she only gets a pittance in return of her work. They said if her earning was calculated it would not be more than Rs10 per day.

They demanded the elimination of the middleman and establishment of display centres where women could come and deal directly with buyers.

Mr Anwar Mehmood Nizamani said that when a chief justice cannot get justice how a poor woman worker could get her rights.

The speakers also demanded the establishment of display centres at district level.
