Kickers thrash Soccerites amid cheating allegations

By Shazia Hasan

KARACHI, June 26: Karachi Kickers annihilated Sindh Soccerites 16-1 while the other match between Diya Women’s Football Club and Colony Women’s Football Club was abandoned after just 15 minutes of play amid allegations of cheating in the first national Inter-club Women’s Football Championship Karachi zone matches played at the Colony Sports Stadium on Thursday.

Half of the 16 goals scored by the Karachi Kickers were contributed by the winning team’s striker Samreen Allaudin through a double hat-trick. Midfielder Kiran Fatima too registered a hat-trick in the match.

The score at half-time was 8-0 with three goals scored through penalty kicks and Samreen (7th, 10th, 27th, 31st and 35th mins), midfielder Kiran (19th, 30th mins), midfielder Huma Habib (21st min), as the main scorers.

The second half saw another eight goals scored with striker Samreen completing her second hat-trick through a field goal in the 35th minute followed by midfielder Huma’s solo effort goal in the 40th along with more field goals by defender Qurat-ul-Ain (55th min), Samreen (57th and 70th mins), striker Nazia Mahfooz (60th min), midfielder Ambreen (63rd min), Kiran (67th min).

The lone goal from Sindh Soccerites was scored by their striker Nuzhat in the 61st minute.

The other match between Diya WFC and Colony WFC was abandoned after just 15 minutes when Colony’s defender Sabah Khalid collided with another team mate and retired hurt.

The team as it is was playing with seven players against the strong 11-member Diya side and playing with a lesser number is against regulations. The stopped match resulted in Diya WFC’s missing out on a chance to win their final league match while building up their goal average.

Before the match was abandoned Diya’s striker Hina Javed had scored the first goal through a penalty kick in the 9th minute followed by two more goals by their other striker and team captain Khatija Kazmi in the 12th and 14th minutes.“The morning match along with all the others played between Colony WFC, Karachi Kickers and Sindh Soccerites are fixed!” Diya WFC’s goalkeeper Sadia Sheikh, who is also the general secretary of Sindh Women’s Football Association, later alleged while speaking to Dawn.

“They made sure that today’s match is abandoned so that we don’t get a chance to reach the second round. We share seven points with Karachi Kickers but they are ahead on goal average after this morning’s encounter,” she informed.

“The girl who got hurt today refused medical assistance. She walked off the field after colliding with her teammate but is claiming that her leg is broken,” said match commissioner Hassan Baloch after the match was stopped by referee Abdul Kareem.

“Colony WFC play their final match with Karachi Kickers on Saturday morning where I’m sure the Kickers will be allowed to score as many goals as they want by their opponents as all the other four teams besides Diya are owned by the same people – the Colony Club.

“Earlier we disqualified Karachi Dolphins when new faces failed to show up after we discovered that it was the same Karachi Kickers girls playing for them in other jerseys. It was a ghost club!

“I’m sending my report to the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) first thing tomorrow morning. This is the height of cheating,” said the fuming match commissioner.
