Pakistan crush frail HK in Asia Cup opener
By Our Sports Reporter
KARACHI, June 25: Pakistan were in no mood to allow Hong Kong put up a resilient fight with bat in the Group ‘B’ Asia Cup opener while sealing a clinical victory at the National Stadium here on Tuesday night (also partly reported in Wednesday’s edition).
The margin of victory – 155 runs – amply illustrated the gulf between the teams as the amateur weekend cricketers from Hong Kong were strangulated inside 38 overs for 133 after the hosts had staged a grand recovery from 161 for seven to reach 288 for nine in their 50 overs.
Zain Abbas found the sweltering late evening unbearable and retired hurt with cramps in his legs. Tabarak (24 off 51) and tail-ender Najeeb Amar (21 off 25) also resisted somewhat to delay the inevitable outcome.
