Pakistan’s celebrated tennis star, Aisam-ul-Haq once again did the country proud when he along with his doubles partner, India’s Rohan Bopanna, made short work of tenth seeded Polish pair of M. Matkowski and M. Fyrstenberg in the first round at Wimbledon late Tuesday.

The Aisam-Bopanna pair won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 to advance into the next round. Playing in front of a packed, pre-dominantly Pakistan-India crowd on court 16, Aisam and Bopanna broke the Poles in the 6th game of the first set to take a 4-2 lead.

Bopanna then saved a break point to win the next game cementing the lead. Serving at 5-3, Aisam lost three points before sealing the set at advantage.

In the first game of the second set, Aisam-Bopanna pair got two break chances which they failed to convert. The Poles then took the game with a point awarded to them rather unfairly since the ball landed clearly six inches out of the margin. The break finally came in the eleventh game, giving them a 6-5 lead and they won the set 7-5.

By the start of the third set, the Polish pair showed signs of tiredness and lost the very first game without putting up much resistance.

From that stage onwards, there was no looking back for Aisam and Bopanna who completely dominated the proceedings and needed just one break to take the third set 6-4 to win the contest.
