Shooting squad named for Germany tour

By Our Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, June 24: Pakistan’s Beijing Olympic-bound wildcard marksman Siddique Umer is among the six shooters including three women, who are being sent to Germany for training later this month for the upcoming South Asian shooting championship.

Siddique will return home after three weeks while others will undergo strenuous two-month training at the German Shooting Federation training academy in Wiesbaden, Germany, Secretary of the National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) Khalid Javed said on Tuesday.

Pakistan, Khalid said, will play host to the fourth SA Shooting championship in Islamabad in November. To a question, the official said the trip has been jointly financed by the Pakistan Sports Trust (PST) and the NRAP with the former contributing a big chunk of money.

Promising Atlia Naz will make her international debut on the foreign tour.

Squad:

Men: Siddique Umer, Mushtaq Mohammad and Dawood Jan; Women: Urooj Fatima, Nadia Saeed and Atlia Naz; Official: Lt. Col Iftikhar Hussain Shah.
