Pressure can be very motivating: Ivanovic

LONDON, June 24: Ana Ivanovic admitted she is thriving on the pressure of being world number one after cruising into the second round at Wimbledon with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rossana De Los Rios on Monday.

Ivanovic, 21, arrived at the All England Club freshly installed as the top player in the women’s game after her French Open triumph earlier this month and lived up to her billing by dispatching the Paraguayan in 57 minutes.

“Obviously there are different ways of dealing with pressure. Becoming number one, it takes more pressure, but also you have to see pressure for what it is. It’s a reflection of your own ambition,” she said.

“If you see it as a positive thing it means that you put yourself in a position to do something memorable, that you feel pressure. So if you look at it that way it can be very motivating.”—AFP
