NAWABSHAH: Man falls victim to revenge killing

By Our Correspondent

NAWABSHAH, June 24: A man was shot dead and another injured in an attack, apparently motivated by revenge, at a Utility Store in Mohammadi Town here on Tuesday reportedly in the presence of policemen.

Eyewitnesses said that the personnel of investigation police of A-Section police station were present near the store when Wali Mohammad Bhangwar, 38, was shot dead and Mohammad Murad Brohi was injured in firing.

Wali Mohammad was brother of Gul Mohammad who was nominated in a case of murder of Noor Ellahi Brohi, beaten to death on Monday by angry villagers when his car hit a rickshaw on the Airport Road near Juma Bhangwar village.

Zulfiqar Bhangwar, cousin of late Wali Mohammad, told journalists that he and late Wali Mohammad were working at the Utility Store when two police mobiles pulled over in front of the store, a man in plainclothes emerged from a mobile van and opened fire on them with an official Kalashnikov, shooting down Wali Mohammad.

The injured Murad Brohi, uncle of late Noor Ellahi Brohi, had a completely different to tell. He said when he walked into the store with police to help them identify and arrest Wali Mohammad, he (Wali) opened fire on them. Some bullets hit him and he passed out not knowing what happened to Wali Mohammad, he claimed.

SP of investigation Altaf Leghari denied police raid on the store or police presence near the crime scene. He said he did not know who Murad Brohi was and dismissed reports about police presence near the store as baseless allegations.

He said the police reached the crime scene after hearing shots and were investigating the case.

Meanwhile, one Bashir Ahmed Samoon, 35, was killed by a truck when he was crossing over the National Highway near Sakrand on Tuesday.

Police have arrested truck driver, Ghulam Mohammad Chandio, and impounded the vehicle. No FIR was lodged till the filing of this report.

DEMO: Activists of the Vaccinators Association Nawabshah staged a demonstration outside the press club on Tuesday, seeking regularisation of their services.

The protesters, Shahid Hussain, Sajid Mehmood, Ali Qurban, Qurban Ali Sher and others demanded that the chief minister regularise their services.

They said that dozens of vaccinators had been working on contract basis for three years. They worked round the clock during hot and humid weather to make anti-polio, anti-hepatitis and other campaigns a success, they said.
