MITHI: Board formed to explore Thar coal reserves

By Our Correspondent

MITHI, June 21: The adviser to the Sindh chief minister on mines and mineral development, Dr Khatumal Jeevan, has said that the previous government had its own agenda and it was not serious in exploration of Thar coal deposits, hence no coal based power plant established.

However, he said, the present government was taking practical measures to pave the way for establishment of coal-based power plants in Thar to pull the country out of the prevailing power crisis.

He was speaking at a public gathering at circuit house here on Friday after inaugurating a blood donating camp on the occasion of birth anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.

“Very important decisions have been made at a recent meeting in Islamabad, tenders have been called and a board has been constituted to explore Thar coal,” Dr Khatumal said.
