Khosa group shows majority: No-trust against Dera nazim

By Our Correspondent

DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 19: The Khosa group showed its majority in the district council session on Thursday with 54 members in their camp while the district nazim’s Leghari group could turn up with eight members.

Before the session, both groups led by Saif Khosa and Awais Leghari held protest against each other outside the district council hall.

The Khosa group moved a no-trust motion against District Nazim Maqsood Leghari. Union council (UC) nazims from the Leghari group boycotted the session while the Khosa group showed its full strength. Later, eight members from the Leghari group attended the session. The total number of UC nazims in the house is 79, of which five seats are vacant.

UC nazim Mir Muhammad Mirza Talpur presented the motion against the district nazim under section 24/3 of the Local Bodies Ordinance. He alleged the district nazim neglected the development of the district and did not call council’s sessions. Convener Asim Zubair Khosa asked Leghari to speak on the motion on Friday (today).

Chief Officer Fidaullah Khan Leghari said the mover of the no-trust motion would have to show two-thirds members to make it successful. He said once the district naib nazim confirmed the required members in favour of the move, the resolution would be sent to the Election Commission of Pakistan who would ask a returning officer to hold polling through secret ballot.

Khosa group leader Saifuddin Khosa said the district nazim should face the move as he had lost the confidence of the house. He said Leghari did no good for the district and had no right to represent the district.
