Strike at hospital after attendant slaps doctor

By Our Correspondent

SHEIKHUPURA, June 19: Doctors and paramedical staff at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital went on strike when some ‘vagabonds’ maltreated and slapped a doctor in emergency ward on Thursday.

Doctor Masoor Kafi was on duty in emergency ward when some people came there to get a patient examined.

The doctor was busy in checking another patient and took some time to attend him. As a result one of them became infuriated and slapped the doctor and abused him. After the incident, doctors and paramedical staff went on strike. They also postponed a number of operations.

Later, doctors at a meeting said that they would continue their strike unless the police registered a case and arrested the accused.

Some hospital sources said the `vagabonds’ were henchmen of a local MNA. Doctors and paramedical staff were on strike till the filing of the report.

SUICIDE: A labourer, Ijaz, a resident of railway quarters, committed suicide by setting himself ablaze over poverty on Thursday.

The deceased was father of four minor children.

ACCIDENT: A man was killed while his wife and a son sustained injuries in a car-tractor collision here on Thursday near motorway interchange.

Reports said Bashir Ahmad along with his wife Farida and a son was on way to Lahore from Rawalpindi. Near the city interchange, Bashir fell asleep as a result the vehicle hit a tractor. Bashir died on the spot while his wife and son received serious injuries and were removed to DHQ hospital.

Saddar police are investigating.
