KARACHI: Registrar’s appointment

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 19: The provincial government has requested the Sindh High Court to appoint a registrar for the inquiry tribunal instituted to probe the April 9 violence across the city, a senior official said.

“The home department on Thursday formally sent its request for the appointment of the registrar,” said the official.

He said the home department was only mandated to set up the tribunal and a schedule and a mechanism of its functioning depended on the judge heading the inquiry.

The provincial government on Wednesday set up the inquiry tribunal to probe the April 9 incident which saw some half a dozen people being burnt alive in Tahir Plaza near City Courts along with large-scale violence across the city.

The government also appointed Justice Nadeem Azhar Siddiqui of the Sindh High Court as one-man chief of the tribunal, which is tasked to come up with a report within two weeks.
