KARACHI, June 19: The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) is in the process of issuing some 5,000 admit cards to candidates seeking admissions to the Dow Medical College, Sindh Medical College and Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Institute of Oral Health Sciences in the MBBS and BDS programmes.

The coordinator of the DUHS admission programme, Dr Rana Qamar, on Thursday said that all the arrangements for the MBBS and BDS admission tests scheduled to be held on June 29 at Expo Centre had been finalised.

She said that all efforts had been made to ensure a foolproof mechanism of admission tests.

The DUHS official said that as many as 213 seats each were available for MBBS programme at the Dow Medical College and the Sindh Medical College for the upcoming academic session on open merit. Similarly, there were 50 seats on open merit for BDS at Institute of Oral Health Sciences, she added.

Giving details of the admissions to the two programmes, Dr Qamar said that the entry examination would be based on multiple choice questions (MCQs), derived from intermediate level English, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.

She said that entry tests would comprise 30 per cent questions each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and 10 per cent would pertain to English.

The official said that 50 per cent of the candidates’ results would be based on the marks procured in the admission test, 10 per cent of their SSC results and 40 per cent of their intermediate results.

Dr Qamar said that the classes of the MBBS and BDS first year at the three DUHS institutions would begin either on September 27 or on October 1.

The academic session would be based on semester system and each semester would be of six months duration, she said, adding that the DUHS had emerged to be the first medical university to have had introduced a semester system.—APP
