FAISALABAD, June 18: Scores of Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) students on Wednesday continued classes boycott and pressed the administration to use its influence for arrest of `criminals’ who stabbed a student of the engineering and technology department.

A number of male and female students gathered on the campus and refused to attend their classes, though teachers were present in classrooms.

The protesters also approached students of different disciplines and asked them to join the protest demonstration.

They staged a peaceful protest demonstration on the university premises and demanded immediate arrest of the `criminals’ who stabbed Waseem Wahla on Tuesday.

Police have already registered a case against five criminals -- Rana Aizad, Rana Haseeb, Rana Khalid, Ali Gujjar and Hamad -- under sections 7-ATA, 148/149/324/337-A1, 337-F1 and 337-L2. However, no arrest has been made so far.

Police force remained present on the campus to avert any eventuality.

Talking to reporters outside the vice-chancellor office where they had set up a protest camp, students said entry of outsiders must be banned in the academia and the administration should approach the police department for a check post.

A delegation of the student action committee held talks with the VC and pressed for eliminating outsiders interference from the campus. They also demanded action against the personal staff officer of VC, Sajjad Ahmed, as he was hand in glove.

The VC assured the students that hooliganism would not be tolerated at any cost and administration would maintain its writ on the campus.

Students said they would meet with city police officer Mohammad Aslam Tareen for arrest of the criminals.

Sources said the VC had dispatched a letter to the police department demanding stern action against the criminals.

Meanwhile, GCUF registrar Zahoor Ahmed Sheikh inquired after the injured student and assured him of complete cooperation of the university.
