Drive against school-grabmafia left halfway

SIALKOT, June 17: Though the authorities concerned woke up for a short span and got as many as eight government school buildings vacated in the last few weeks from the influential, who had converted them into cattle sheds, there are several other school buildings in this district still under the entire or partial occupation of grabbers.

The drive launched vigorously by the district government with the help of police has halted without any reason and some officials say it was nothing but eyewash.

However, Sialkot DCO Capt Atta Muhammad Khan says the district government would resume the drive soon.

The district and provincial governments remained unable to get the school buildings vacated from influential land grabbers due to a large-scale interference by politicians.

According to official sources, the buildings of as many as 21 government schools were fully or partially occupied by local influential for the past several years.

They are: Government Girls Primary School Nandpur East, Daska, fully occupied since 2005, Government Girls Primary School Kamlay Bhaag, Pasrur, since 2002, Government Girls primary School Chak Sadaavey, Sialkot, since 1985 and Government Girls Primary School Jandwala, Daska, fully occupied since 1998.

Similarly, the building of Government Primary School Mattekey, Pasrur, was partially occupied since 2000, Government Public High School Ghartal, Daska, since 1972, Government Primary School Kot Ghuman, Daska, since 2007, Government Primary School Dugri Satrah, Daska, since 2005, Government Girls Primary School Karanwali, Sambrial, since 1969, Government Girls Primary School Dugri Muslim, Daska, since 1993, Government Girls Elementary School Jassoraan, Pasrur, since 2003, Government Girls Elementary School Bhulair Bajwa, Pasrur, since 1978, Government Primary School Arki, Pasrur, since 1980, Government Girls Primary School Arki, Pasrur, since 1979, Government Girls Primary School Amin Shah, Pasrur, since 1978, Government Primary School Ranekey Nagra, Pasrur, since 2000, Government Girls Primary School Kot Kuba, Pasrur, since 1986, Government Arabic High School, Sialkot, since 1987, Government Girls High School Kharotta Syedan, Sialkot, since 1992 and Government Girls Primary School Gorian, Sialkot, was partially occupied since 1987.
