Six POs held; five cops suspended


GUJRANWALA, June 17: Police claimed to have arrested six proclaimed offenders allegedly involved in heinous crimes, while five police officials were suspended for helping the accused.

Sadar circle SP Athar Waheed told newsmen on Tuesday that the accused Waris of Gujranwala, Amin of Sialkot and Afzal Pathan of Peshawar, who were among those arrested, had links with parliamentarians. The SP said the accused would extort millions of rupees on telephone from industrialists and traders.

He said Khalid Islam Jathol, a former SHO of Tatle Ali police station, inspector Saifullah, SI Tahir Cheema, Aziz and Muhammad Asghar were suspended from service for facilitating the accused in committing crime. He said a huge cache of ammunition was also recovered from the possession of the accused. — Correspondent
