Call to make NRO beneficiaries public
LAHORE, June 17: The Jamaat-i-Islami has asked the government to make public names of 5,800 beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) so that the nation may recover each and every penny from the businessmen and politicians who had plundered the national exchequer.
Commenting on State Bank Governor Shamshad Akhtar’s statement in the National Assembly’s standing committee, JI information secretary Ameerul Azim said on Tuesday the names of those whose loans were written off and were excluded from the exit control list under the NRO should be published in national papers.
He wondered that only 200 amongst the 6,000 loan defaulters could not reap fruit of the NRO.
Shamshad Akhtar had complained of use of position and pressure by politicians for seeking loans and that no bank had ever dared to initiate action against any businessman or politician in the country.
Azim regretted that the whole nation was under debt as the government was taxing the masses to meet its expenses, while there was a mafia devouring public resources worth billions of rupees.
He said these were the people who made it to the parliament on the basis of their looted resources and again started their plunder. — Staff Reporter
