Aussie seamer claims T20 hat-trick


LONDON, June 16: Australian left-arm seamer Dirk Nannes claimed a hat-trick to help Middlesex to a seven-wicket victory over Essex in the English Twenty20 Cup on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Victorian bowled Varun Chopra and former Zimbabwe Test player Grant Flower before completing his hat-trick by trapping Ryan ten Doeschate.

That left Essex on 20 for five at the end of the fifth over after Nannes had earlier yorked Jason Gallian with his fifth delivery.

Essex made 132 with Nannes finishing with four for 28 from his four overs. Middlesex cruised to 133-3 off 16.1 overs.

North Division:

At Chesterfield: Yorkshire beat Derbyshire by 11 runs.

Yorkshire 169-5 (A. McGrath 72 not out); Derbyshire 158-6 (G. Smith 68).

At Old Trafford: Lancashire beat Leicestershire by 37 runs.

Lancashire 167 (J. Allenby 5-21); Leicestershire 130-8 (H.D. Ackerman 63; S. Marshall 4-21).

Midlands/West/Wales Division:

At Bristol: Northamptonshire beat Gloucestershire by 27 runs.

Northamptonshire 162-5; Gloucestershire 135.

South Division:

At Chelmsford: Middlesex beat Essex by seven wickets.

Essex 132 (J.S. Foster 50 not out; D. Nannes 4-28); Middlesex 133-3 (T Henderson 64 not out).

At The Oval: Surrey beat Sussex by five wickets.

Sussex 141-5 (C. Nash 52); Surrey 142-5.
