KHANEWAL, June 16: Five robbers on Monday gunned down two employees of toll plaza, injured their colleague and took away cash and mobile phones from others staffers and passengers of a bus at Kabirwala toll plaza on Jhang Road, about 20 km away from here.

Reports said the robbers came to the district council’s toll plaza on foot early in the morning. They opened fire on the employees when guards offered resistance. As a result, cashier Imran Abbas and guard Liaquat Ali were killed on the spot while their colleague Muhammad Siddique sustained injuries.

The robbers collected a cash of Rs55,000 from the cabin and snatched five cell phones from other employees. In the meantime, a Multan-bound bus (LR-6603) stopped there to pay toll. The robbers collected Rs80,000 from the passengers and then allowed the bus to go. The accused fled from the scene in a van driven by another robber who was perhaps standing near the toll plaza.

Elite force and the police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to the THQ hospital. The injured staffer was removed to the Multan Nishtar hospital. A case No.263/08 under sections 302, 397 and 395 has been registered.
