By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, June 15: Scores of residents of New Pind staged a protest demonstration and observed token hunger strike outside the press club here on Sunday, demanding construction of an overhead bridge at a railway crossing in their area.

The protestors shouted slogans against the Sukkur district government, which, according to them, was not interested in the construction of the bridge.

The protestors told journalists that New Pind was a densely populated area and its residents were being meted out step-motherly treatment by the district government and the taluka municipal administration.

They said that there were no civic amenity in their area, including water supply, sewerage system and roads, and the residents were facing hardships due to lack of overhead bridge at the railway crossing.

They said that the gate of railway crossing often remained closed due to which school-going children, office-going people and patients being taken to hospitals faced inconvenience.

They said that their genuine demand had been kept pending for the last many years and called on the government to construct a bridge at the railway crossing.
