Javed Zaman quits PCB post

Published June 14, 2008

LAHORE, June 13: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) adviser on grass root level Javed Zaman, tendered his resignation on Friday, citing domestic problems as the reason.

Although Javed, while talking to Dawn, said that some domestic problems forced him to quit, sources in the board said he was asked to resign by the PCB authorities.

“I had been working with the board in different capacities for almost three decades on honorary basis but now my domestic activities are not allowing me to continue with the job,” said Javed.

Sources however said that the PCB suspected that Javed, was quite close to former Director Special Projects Salim Altaf who was sacked alongwith two other officials on Thursday for their alleged involvement in leaking secret information to the press.

To a question, Javed said that if Salim’s phone was bugged, it was ethically and legally wrong and it should not have happened. “No law allows recording of private conversion of any person the world over and it is a spiteful act,” he said. — Sports Reporter
