Senate Committee to discuss Asif’s case

LAHORE, June 11: The Senate Standing Committee on Sports, set to take up fast bowler Mohammad Asif’s detention at Dubai airport in its meeting on June 18 in Islamabad, will also discuss the audited balance sheet and income statements of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) from 2003-2008, it was learnt on Wednesday.

“In pursuant to a requisition made by three members of the committee under rule 163 (4) of the rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 1998, a meeting of the Standing Committee on Sports will be held on 18th June, 2008 at 2.30pm at the Parliament House, Islamabad,” an order of the Senate Secretariat said on Wednesday.

The agenda before the meeting comprises following points:-

i) Audited balance sheet and income statements of PCB for the year 2003-04, 2004-05, 2006-07, and 2007-08 (projected).

ii) Details asked by Hon’able Senator Enver Baig in the follow-up letter after the last meeting of the Standing Committee on Sports regarding PCB deposits in various banks.

iii) To discuss the shameful incident that took place this week in Dubai where Test cricketer Mohammad Asif was held by the UAE police for possession of banned substance.
