DHAKA, June 11: The Pakistan cricket team was fined for maintaining slow over-rate during their tri-series limited-overs match against India here on Tuesday.

Jeff Crowe, the ICC match referee, imposed the fine after Shoaib Malik’s side was ruled to be two overs short of the target when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

As such, Shoaib was fined 20 per cent of his match fee while each of his players received 10 per cent fines.

Commenting on his decision, Crowe said: Although there was a rain interruption late in the innings, which always makes it difficult to keep the overs flowing, Pakistan only bowled 13 overs by the first drinks break and never managed to recover that deficit.” —Agencies
