Police claim netball event

KARACHI, June 11: Police won the National Inter-departmental Men’s Netball Championship 2008 after defeating Navy by 38-16 goals in the final played at the Auto Ban Road Ground, Hyderabad, on Tuesday.

Railways bagged the third position.

The championship which featured five teams initially, was left with only three, namely Police, Navy and Railways after the pull- out of Wapda and Army.

Police emerged as the stronger side from the very beginning of the three-day event when they beat Navy by 58-21 goals in the opener.

The second day saw Police winning again, beating Railways by 38-16 goals. In the second match played on the same day, Navy beat Railways by 28-26.

The matches were supervised by umpires Khalid Parvaiz, Mohammad Anwar, Maqbool Ahmed, Shahid Amin, M. Adnan and M. Nadeem.

The event was organised by the Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF) in collaboration with the Sindh Netball Association (SNA).
