PESHAWAR, June 11: The city police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a terrorism attempt by defusing a time bomb, which was planted in a car parking of the busy Shafi Market in Saddar.

Police said that the bomb was mounted on a timepiece and planted under a motorcar. Someone informed the police on the helpline 15 about it.

“Following the information the officials of the bomb disposal squad were called to the site who defused the explosive,” said an official of the Gulberg police station.

An official of the squad, when contacted told Dawn that it was a time bomb weighing about 500 grams and could rock the area if it would have exploded, saying that it was a matter of grave concern for the police as the area is a busy shopping place.

ROBBERY: A gang of dacoits barged into two houses of administrators of a religious seminary Darul Ulum Numania and decamped with cash, valuables and arms in the wee hours of Wednesday in Charsadda.

The gang of about 13 criminals wearing masks entered the houses of Maulana Mohammad Anwar and Maulana Khadeem Hussain adjacent to Darul Ulum Numania Utmanzai on the main road and made the inmates a hostage at gunpoint.

They looted the cash, golden ornaments, cell phone, pistols and guns from both the houses. They later entered the Madrassah after breaking the back gate and made 150 students of the seminary hostage at gun point. The dacoits fled when one watchman fired in the air.

A meeting of the administrative committee of the Darul Ulum Numania called upon the authorities to lodge an FIR against the accused and arrest them within three days. They warned to start a protest campaign through out the district and block the main Peshawar road if the accused were not arrested.
