KARACHI, June 10: The National Stadium Karachi (NSK) is undergoing renovation in preparation for the ninth Asia Cup which is starting from June 24.

The stadium will be holding ten matches out of the total 13 in the six-nation 13-day competition featuring India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, UAE and Pakistan.

New tiles have been installed at all the four floors of the main building of the stadium.

“We are spending around Rs10 million to keep the stadium in good shape for the Asia Cup,” PCB human resources director Nadeem Akram revealed.

The PCB has renovated washrooms of Nasim-ul-Ghani, Wasim Akram and Asif Iqbal enclosures.

Waters tanks have also been installed for drinking waters in General and other enclosures.

“We would be trying hard to provide maximum facilities to the general public. The PCB wants them to enjoy matches in good atmosphere,” the official said.

In the meantime, floodlight towers at the stadium were tested on Monday night. The lights were cleaned and damaged lights were replaced.

The PCB will be relying on their own generators for power supply during the matches of Asia Cup.

All the matches will be day/night encounters.

Climate experts have given heavy forecast for rains from the middle of this month till early July which can affect matches.—APP
