‘Peace deal not scrapped’

ISLAMABAD, June 10: Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik said on Tuesday that the Swat peace agreement had not been scrapped, although it had been violated by militants.

Denying reports published in some newspapers on Tuesday, the adviser said at a briefing at the FIA Headquarters that he had never said the deal had been scrapped. The government was still honouring the accord, he added.

The adviser said a recent bomb blast in a girls’ school in Swat was a clear violation of the agreement by the militants.

NWFP’s senior minister Bashir Bilor also said the peace deal with the local Taliban in Swat had not been scrapped. — Staff Reporter
