Writers oppose safe exit for Musharraf

ISLAMABAD, June 10: Noted poets and writers here on Tuesday warned of popular revolution if President Pervez Musharraf was allowed a safe exit.

“If Musharraf is allowed to flee from the country under a conspiracy, it will trigger a revolt among the people against the army and the PPP,” said eminent poet Ahmad Faraz while addressing a press conference along with Masood Mufti, Azmat Shaheen and others at Rawalpindi Press Club’s camp office.

“If Musharraf succeeds in fleeing from the country, neither the government nor those giving him a safe exit would be forgiven,” they cautioned. It will trigger a civil war in the country” they warned.

The impeachment of President Musharraf and reinstatement of deposed judges will ensure stability in the country, they underscored.

The poets and writers from across the country demanded execution of President Musharraf.

“He is a usurper who massacred innocent citizens for nine years, ambushed democracy and is not acceptable to the people,” they added.

They also accused Musharraf of weakening the country internally and externally.

They urged the people to participate in the lawyers’ long march.—Online
