Three hurt as train hits car at unmanned crossing

SHEIKHUPURA, June 10: Three people, including a woman and a child, sustained critical injuries after a passenger train hit their car at an unmanned railway crossing near Damuana in Bhekhi police precincts on Tuesday.

The Jaranwala-bound train from Lahore hit the car when it was crossing the railway track hastily and threw it 50 yards away. The injured were taken to DHQ Hospital. However, their identity was yet to be ascertained till the filing of this report.

SHOT INJURED: Five unidentified assailants shot at and injured three employees of a dental clinic near stadium in Civil Lines area on Tuesday.

A security guard of another nearby hospital also opened fire, which led the assailants to flee while resorting aerial firing and hurling threats to owner of the clinic, Dr Naeem Baber.

Dr Baber later told reporters that some of his colleague doctors were jealous about his professional repute. He alleged that they were keen in getting his business wound up and that a similar incident had taken place in the past but the police did not take any action.

The doctors association in an emergent meeting demanded the immediate arrest of the assailants and stern action against them. Dr Mubasher Ahmed, Dr Khawar Rafique, Dr Abdul Nasir Tawana and others appealed to the chief minister to intervene and provide them justice. The A-Division police registered a case and started investigations.
