Adviser claims success in anti-terror efforts

ISLAMABAD, June 9: Adviser to Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik has claimed major successes in anti-terrorists efforts, saying that nine suicide bombers have been arrested and three vehicles carrying a large quantity of explosives have been seized in the federal capital.

Mr Malik told the National Assembly during the question hour on Monday that two of these vehicles were carrying 400 kg explosives each.He said that the vehicle used in the attack on the Danish embassy was carrying 20 kg of explosives and observed that an entire sector of the capital could have been destroyed had the terrorists succeeded in their mission.

He said that during interrogation, the terrorists had disclosed that they were ready to explode the ammunition within an hour or so.

Without naming any country, he said there was a foreign element behind the terrorist activities in the country in general and Balochistan in particular.He said that terrorism was a threat to the country and concerted efforts were required to combat it.
