By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 9: A newborn baby girl was kidnapped on Monday from a New Karachi hospital, police said.

They said a midwife, identified as Sadiqa, wife of Zakir Hussain, was booked and arrested on the complaint of the newborn’s father, Mohammed Shahid.

The police said that Qamar Jahan had given birth to a baby girl on Sunday evening. They said that the girl was found missing the next morning.

A case (FIR 133/08) has been registered against the suspect and she has also been arrested accordingly.

The police said that the suspect during preliminary interrogation broke down and confessed to having kidnapped the child.

According to the police, Sadiqa has handed over the baby to a woman identified as Mehwish for Rs40,000. They said that efforts were on to track down Mehwish.

Family sources said that the couple got married four years ago and had already lost a two-year-old son who died a year ago.
