Pakistan bridge pair creates history


KARACHI, June 8: Pakistan created history when Javed Khalid and Saeed Akhtar of the Rawalpindi/Islamabad Bridge Association won the Worldwide Pairs bridge championship which concluded across the globe on Sunday.

Javed and Saeed showed a remarkable tactical performance to grab the unique honour by accumulating 71.97 per cent score in 22-year history of the championship.

Second and third positions were bagged by US pairs of Roger Lee/Chien-Yao Tseng (70.91 per cent) and Carolyne Fox/George Fox (70.21 per cent).

1 Javed Khalid/Saeed Akhtar (Pakistan) 71.97 per cent; 2 Roger Lee/Chien-Yao Tseng (USA) 70.91 per cent; 3 Carolyne Fox/George Fox (USA) 70.21 per cent; 4 Pat Quinn / Enda Glynn (Ireland) 70.12 per cent; 5 Douglas H Scott/Wonnie Duncan (USA) 69.79 per cent; 6 Bernasconi Isabella/Bernasconi Edoardo (Italy) 69.66 per cent; 7 Herman Helber/Fred Theurkauf (USA) 69.58 per cent; 8 Craig Gower/Alon Apteker (South Africa) 69.35 per cent; 9 Jane Segal/Wendy Dechadarevian (USA) 69.33 per cent; 10 Smith I (gm)/Tache N (m) (Venezuela) 68.89 per cent.—APP
