Swapping adds to woes of passengers
GUJRANWALA, June 8: Swapping of passengers is flourishing in the public transport vehicles on the GT Road much to the inconvenience of commuters.
The illegal practice is going on both long and short routes in the presence of the army of motorway police, highway patrol teams, traffic police and traffic wardens.
According to a survey conducted by this correspondent, a majority of crews conspicuously display Lahore-bound, Faisalabad-bound or Sargodha-bound boards in front of their vehicles before departing from Gujrat and Rawalpindi.
Similar boards are also hanged in front of Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Gujrat-bound buses before their departure for Lahore, but these buses terminate their journey after reaching Gujranwala. The passengers are then forced to shift to another bus for reaching their final destination.
Not behind are the wagon crews who board passengers for Wazirabad or Gujrat from Gujranwala and forcefully exchange commuters after reaching Rahwali, Ghakkhar or other towns.
The passengers complain that transporters receive ‘commission’ from their colleagues.
