Six killed in Muzaffarabad road accidents

MUZAFFARABAD, June 7: Four men and two women, including a Nazim, were killed and three others were injured in two road accidents in and on the outskirts of the AJK capital on Saturday, police and witnesses said.

In the first accident which occurred near Chehla Bandi Bridge, a dumper loaded with gravel skid back reportedly after developing a technical fault and crushed two women, waiting for the public transport beside the road, to death and injured two other women and an infant who were hospitalised.

The deceased were identified as Lal Jan, wife of Akram and Sheeraz Begum, wife of Mumtaz Shah. Hospital sources said the injured were in stable condition.

In the second accident, a car (LWP-451) with three tourists from the Punjab on board plunged into a ravine while returning from the tourist resort of Pir Chinasi in the east of Muzaffarabad city. As a result, all three Hafiz Mohammad Ashfaq, Mohammad Akhtar Hussain and Qari Mohammad Hanif (residents of Sheikhupura) were killed on the spot, sub-inspector Mudassir Siddique told Dawn.

A pedestrian from the area identified as Saghir, son of Salam Din was also killed after being hit by the vehicle, he added.

Mr Ashfaq was said to be the Nazim of a union council in Sheikhupura.
