4 policemen killed in bomb attack

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, June 6: Four policemen and a passer-by were killed in a bomb attack on a police van in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night.

According to eyewitnesses, a bomb exploded in the Wanda Mochiawala area without causing damage. But as soon as a police party and passers-by converged at the scene, another bomb went off, killing four policemen and a pedestrian.

Nine people, a journalist among them, were injured in the explosion, city police chief said.

The four police officials were identified as Khadim Hussain, Fateh Hussain, Waheedullah and Ikramullah. A power breakdown hampered rescue efforts.

Concrete barriers were erected across major roads, while razor wire was laid around the perimeters of key government buildings.—Correspondent
