Haqqani presents credentials to Bush

By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, June 6: Pakistan’s new Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani presented his credentials to President George W. Bush on Friday at the White House.

Mr Haqqani is Pakistan’s 20th ambassador to Washington since 1947.

The first, M.A.H. Ispahani, was his wife’s grandfather, who bought and donated the ambassador’s official residence to Pakistan.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Haqqani was national security adviser to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. He also was a political adviser to three former prime ministers, Nawaz Sharif, Benazir Bhutto and Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi. From 1992 to 1993, he was Pakistan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka.
