Oil price hits $138.5

NEW YORK, June 6: The oil price reached a new record of more than $138 a barrel after a report suggested it could reach $150 by July amid rising geopolitical tensions.

Crude oil in New York gained more than $10 to hit $138.54 a barrel. The rise came as US shares fell sharply in response to unemployment figures reaching 5.9 per cent, a four-year high.
